{almost kicked out of MDO}
Little Drew narrowly escaped getting kicked out of his Mother's Day Out Program this morning. Little troublemaker. :)
After another gut-wrenching drop off, I went to speak with the director. I planned on turning in the October tuition and telling her that I didn't know how many more Tuesday mornings we had in us. Since she has called me after about 60-90 minutes each week to come get him, she is very aware of the situation. Throughout our attempts at this, she has always been positive. Her response to my concerns has continually been, "He'll be fine with time. We just have to teach him that you'll come back to get him." Last week when I told her that I was ready to call it quits, she protested and asked me to stick with it a bit longer. I expected a similar response this week.
To my surprise, she agreed and said that maybe he just wasn't ready. She actually handed the tuition check back to me and said that we should wait and see what kind of morning he had. I thanked her for her patience and had many nice things to say about Drew's teachers. I told her that I would be back to get him in two hours, unless she called me sooner.
I left the church fully expecting this to be the last Tuesday Drew spent at MDO. I was worried about him the entire time I was away. I didn't venture far from the church and kept my phone in my hand.
After ninety minutes, I couldn't take it any longer. I returned to the church. To my great surprise, Drew had a good morning. His teachers seemed almost as happy about it as I was. They said he was extremely upset for the first ten minutes after I left, but then he began to play. He ate snack, sang a song with them, and really enjoyed the playground. They had even taken a picture of him smiling to prove to me that he had been happy. :)
Woo hoo!!!!!!! One huge step for my little guy! We're going to try it again next week.
I look forward to someday embarrassing him with the story of how he almost got kicked out of the MDO Program.
