We stuck around the house all day today playing and hanging out together. It was one of those nice days where we only left the basement to come upstairs for food and Drew's nap time. We got out the train set for Drew while Gracie and Luke played some very very elaborate game of veterinarian for animals who got caught in a tornado. (?) I alternated between playing with the kids and organizing a storage area down there. All in all, just a really cozy day.
Things were going super smoothly until about 4:30- grouchy time in the Hedenberg household. Everyone was complaining of being hungry and I realized we had never made our much -needed trip to Kroger to buy the rest of the dinner ingredients. I made a snap decision to take the kids out for a quick bite for dinner before heading to the grocery store. (Because if grocery shopping with three kids is no fun, grocery shopping with three hungry and crabby kids is really no fun.)
Normally when Ben is out of town I avoid restaurants. Having all three kids by myself at a restaurant is just way too much work to be an enjoyable experience. If we do go somewhere, I usually opt for a sit down restaurant. The carrying of trays, filling of drinks, gathering of utensils and condiments, and table-bussing that fast food requires is exhausting while trying to also carry Drew and get Luke to walk through the restaurant without breaking anything.
We headed into Fazzoli's and had the best service I've ever had in a fast food restaurant. (I think it helped that we were the only customers in the place and Luke was wearing a top hat). The three men assisting us were so over-the-top helpful that is was getting to be comical. I had to wonder if they were each aware of the other two employees also helping us. We were asked at least ten times if we needed anything else. At one point Luke asked me why they didn't have anything else to do. :)
One in particular was a really nice, but kind of creepy dorky. Gracie had spilled a tiny bit of her water and he was right there with a mop. He wanted to refill her water for her. He decided we would be more comfortable at another booth and wanted to move all of our food for us. He brought us a huge snack of napkins and told Gracie not to worry about her spill- he had it all taken care of and accidents happen. (This was repeated at least four times). He kept offering us water refills and extra breadsticks. He inquired about the kid's ages. He told me I was a good mom and asked where "the Mr." was.
This was the point when his interest became a teeny bit creepy. We finished up and he was waiting at the exit to open the door for us.
Now tell me, what kind of crazy man tries to pick up a woman 5+ years older than him while she is dining at a fast food restaurant with her three kids? There are some interesting people in this world, aren't there? ;)
Happy now Tuesday morning!
