a happy story of a box of books

Ben and I recently rented a storage unit for some of the stuff that has been taking over our garage. We live in a large house, but we have very little storage. No attic and no basement means that all of the things we don't need on a regular basis- outgrown kids clothes, holiday decorations, outdoor toys during the winter months- get stacked in a corner of the garage. Pair all of that with Ben's workbench and tools, four bikes and a bike trailer, a wagon, a lawnmower, a garbage tote and two recycling bins, a deep freeze, a stack of firewood, and various other random items.......you can probably guess the state of our garage. Once winter hit and we needed to be able to pull the van into the garage, we knew it was time to do something and found a storage unit near our house with a really reasonable monthly rental rate. A perfect solution.

Ben rented a U-Haul over Winter Break and we spent a cold hour loading it with everything we won't need in the next few months. As we were sorting through things, Ben came across a box of items from my teaching days. I found it odd since all of the rest of my teaching things are in storage in my parent's attic, but I pushed it off to the side and forgot about it.

Fast forward to tonight......... Ben took Gracie to a Pacers game, so once I got the boys to sleep, I had a whole quiet house to myself. I pulled the box of teaching things into the house to go through, not expecting to find anything all too exciting. Instead, I found a wonderful surprise- 108 books!

This in and of itself is not that exciting as I probably have five hundred or more books in storage- many duplicates and chapter books that Gracie and Luke are not yet ready for. These books, though, were really great picture books that I had forgotten that I had.

Such a wonderful, happy little suprise for a cold, quiet Tuesday evening!
