Gracie has discovered the joy of writing. She carries around a notebook and pencil throughout the day and writes in it constantly. She likes to write stories and poems, and she loves to make lists. (The poor girl didn't stand a chance on that one; the need to organize her life using a pen and paper is deeply imbedded in her blood! :) )

Her discovery of a love of writing makes me happier than I can say. As a little girl, I wanted to grow up to be an author (and a ballerina and a mommy and a teacher....). I spent hours upon hours writing stories and sharing them with others. We had a really sweet older neighbor, Mrs. Gooding, who always encouraged me to walk down to her house and read my stories to her. I have to smile thinking of what a pest I must have been at times, interrupting her daily schedule to stand on her porch to listen to an eight year old read a story. Bless her heart!

Because I spent so much time as a child writing, it really touches me to see Gracie exploring this same interest. I'll try to share a couple of her stories on the blog sometime soon. I know she'd enjoy sharing them with others.

One night last week, Gracie was sitting up in her bed writing. I went to tuck her in and found this adorable chart next to her bed:

As often as she writes, she still has just a bit of trouble with directionality, and b's and d's get her flustered at times. In typical Gracie fashion, she independently created a solution to her problem and made herself a chart as a reminder of which way each letter should face. Pretty good thinking, I think!
