summer, i just love you.

things I am loving about this summer break, in no particular order:

1. a fun revolving door of kids. My kids are here, friends come over, my kids leave to go to their friends' homes... there's just more time to be with friends in the summer time. Grace has had plans with friends every single day of this summer- the mall one day, a sleepover another, a walk to Starbucks... summer life is good at age almost 14.

2. Watching Drew's baseball games makes me happy. Man, that kid loves sports! When he is not playing sports, he wants to practice sports or watch sports. He records the Cardinals games and watches them all. He pounces if he thinks someone will agree to another round of catch with him.

3. Ben grilled out dinner every night of this weekend. We had friends over for dinner tonight and because of the grill, the only thing I had to pull together was the salad. I just love nights off from the kitchen.

4. I have had time to read. I have read nine books since my preschool year ended. I had to sit at a cheer lemonade stand for almost four hours today and read an entire book while I was there. Don't know the last time I had the time to read an entire book in one sitting.

5. Our backyard is the best part of this house for us. When we bought the house, we wanted the backyard to be a place where the kids and their friends like to play. When the kids spend hours out there, it makes me happy. No screens, no structure, just play.

6. Our calendar is full, but not in an overwhelming way. We have, at least at the moment, a great mix of structured activities and time to just be at home. We have a couple of places to be each day- just enough to keep things interesting, but not enough to wish for a day off.
