a list of happenings in our world at this moment, November 2016
FIRST: WE ARE DONE WITH THE 2016 SOCCER SEASON!!!
I felt like that statement deserved a little extra emphasis. Holy moly, was this soccer season never-ending! For the past ten weeks, soccer has played far too great a role in this family.
Kate's last soccer game Saturday was pretty much the pits- 8 AM and 37 degrees outside. She is a reluctant player in the best of circumstances, so Saturday's game made for an unhappy girl. She did not have contact with the ball at one time during the entire game. At one point she was standing on the sidelines just crying. I went over to ask what was wrong and she said, "This is horrible!" It was hard not to laugh. All was well once the game ended, however, because there were medals AND donuts.
Drew's last game yesterday was much, much more pleasant. His attitude towards soccer is about the opposite of Katie's. It was a beautiful fall day in St. Louis, so sitting on a blanket on a Sunday afternoon with my people cheering on our Drew was pretty great.
It was a nice way to say goodbye to soccer for a long while. :)

Other non-soccer tidbits:
- Grace had to have some oral surgery Saturday related to her braces. Man, that girl is a trooper! Her day of surgery was pretty rough with pain and bleeding and nausea, but by the evening she had bounced back and was hanging out on the couch with me, eating pudding and watching Downton. By the next morning, she was up for going to church with us and then spent the afternoon at a friend's house. Not much gets her down!
- Luke and six of his friends celebrated his birthday Saturday. Ben took them all to Escape The Room and then the group came back here for pizza and Smores. Luke tells us it was the best birthday. Ben gets major points with me for doing the majority of the work/hosting.
- Preschool is going wonderfully. We have hit the sweet spot of the school year- all of the routines and expectations have been established and now we can just learn and play. Not that's it's all sunshine and roses- they are three and four, of course- but things are great.
- I have taken a "kind of" break from Facebook. It would be nice to take a full break, but I manage my business through Facebook as well as run the school Facebook page for our elementary school, so I am still on there multiple times a day. I have limited my time there to checking my notifications, updating the school page, and running My Home Is My Happy Place. It was the right move for me. I was checking in entirely too often and leaving feeling worse off for having jumped on to Facebook. I don't know about your newsfeeds, but mine was nothing by anger and name calling and despair. I am happy to quiet my life from that noise for a while.
It would be nice to write more as the sun is shining in the window next to me, Bear is resting at my feet, and there is a cup of hot coffee next to me, but my sign-painting break is over. I have thirty signs to paint by the end of today. This morning I was talking to Kate before school and she asked what I was going to do today. I said that I had lots of signs to paint while she was at school and pointed to the stack. I asked cheerfully, "Do you think I will get them all done?" Without missing a beat, she matter-of-factly answered "No." :)
