in this moment in time
Katie-
1. is becoming more confident each day. It is getting harder to remember the days where she clung to my leg in any new situation. She is the most introverted of the kids, for sure, but she no longer falls into the category of "painfully shy" as she did for a long, long time.
2. is suddenly very interested in writing and reading. She wants to write everything and wants to "read" me her bedtime books some nights.
3. is in love with her best friends. "Kendall" and "Ainsley" are heard a hundred times a day in this house.
4. has started dance class again
5. gave an awesome presentation last week at school when she was the "Expert Explorer"
6. is throwing new words out left and right (today it was similar and generally).
7. has a kindergarten home visit scheduled next week
8. has definite ideas about clothes these days. Gone are the days that I could pick out her clothes. She now says things like, "That is too blue." and "That is boring because it only has one color on it and no designs or sparkles or anything fun!"
Drew-
1. impresses me with his goalie skills at indoor soccer this season.
2. loves to play bey blades with Luke (Is it bey blades or time with his brother? The kid loves his big brother!)
3. seems to always be getting an invitation to a party or to someone's house. He is a social kid.
4. hates showers. I don't know where this new hatred came from, but you would think I was asking him to do something painful.
5. began Project Plus at school and now looks forward to those two days of the week ten times more than the other three
6. is intense on the soccer field, but less so on the basketball court. Maybe the awful black eye he got at practice at the beginning of the season has something to do with this?
7. is pretty into trying new foods. We went out for Ben's birthday and Drew wanted to try everything on the table, trying sushi and seaweed even when his siblings (and mom) did not.
8. asked me today if he could also go away to camp for a week this summer like Grace and Luke. He does not seem to realize that he is only in first grade.
Luke-
1. completed a science fair project with his friend Jude without any help from an adult
2. participated in an Equations competition last week as a representative for Bristol
3. is a little bogged down by the homework load of fifth grade. His teacher is known for her heavy work load. We knew it coming in since Grace had her as well, but it doesn't make it any easier to take some nights.
4. is enjoying basketball a lot. Ben loves to take him to his games and practices when he is town so the two of them can talk basketball together.
5. is pretty into bey blades as well
6. wants to talk politics and has great interest in the presidential candidates
7. is trying to teach himself card tricks
8. asks me questions all of the time. Many of the questions stump me. Thank goodness for the Internet.
Gracie-
1. fills her time with before and afterschool activities
2. frequently disappears to her room when she is at home. She loves her room and likes to sit on her love seat and work on homework, listen to music, text with friends, and draw.
3. is usually wearing earbuds and singing quietly to herself
4. loves clothes more than ever and has her own unique style. When I pick her up at school, I notice (with pride) that she doesn't try to dress exactly like everyone else, but rather wears what she likes, which is usually a skirt, Converse, and a funky tee shirt under a slouchy sweater. I think she is adorable.
5. is killing seventh grade. A after A after A after A. She works so hard at school and gives 110% to every assignment and project.
6. went to a lock in at church last weekend and came home worthless for the next day. She had a great time, though, so she declares it all worth it.
7. occasionally babysits for neighborhood kids and enjoys the spending money that it gives her
8. seems to be pretty excited about our upcoming move. She has big plans for her new bedroom.
