{back to school blues}

We have some back to school blues going on around here as the kids return to school this week after a really long and great Christmas break.

The blues are actually all mine, not theirs. Gracie and Luke were so excited to head back today to see their friends and Drew is pretty annoyed that he doesn't have school until tomorrow.

I just feel sad that a wonderful 2+ week relaxed time together has come to an end. There was something so wonderful about having all the kids home and playing together.... so wonderful to have no real schedule.....  to have no obligations, homework, or strict bedtime.....  to have time to play board games and build elaborate block towers for Katie to knock over, to do art projects together,  to run to Sonic for Happy Hour just because....to have the time for Gracie to take over our kitchen at her first attempt at cake pops..... to enjoy hours cuddled up together on the couch watching movies on Netflix and to have lots of playtime with friends...... so many of the things that we can't always find the time to enjoy during a regular week of school and lessons and homework and chores. Our normal routine isn't even all that crazy compared to some families I know, but taking a break from it for two weeks felt great.

So today we hop back to it in a busier-than-I-like way. School all day followed by gymnastics from 4-5:30 followed by dinner in the car followed by swim lessons for the three oldest kids from 6:15-7:00 followed by homework and a solo bedtime routine for me since Ben is out of town. Quite a bit different than the last two weeks, for sure.

Some shots of of some of the quieter moments of our break-
