{transitions, nesting, and hormones}
How's that for a title? :)
Drew was chatting my ear off this morning, repeatedly making comments that I found completely amusing. The way that he sees the world and tries to figure things out amazes me. It's probably a hormonal thing, but I just keep shaking my head in wonder at some of the things that he comes up with lately. I am sure that Ben is tired of hearing me say how quickly it seems Drew is growing up. I am sure it will only seem worse once I am holding a newborn in my arms.
I have been so lucky to have been spoiled with calls, emails, and texts from wonderful friends checking in over the last week or two. It is funny to me how many of the conversations with fellow mamas eventually drifted to the emotions of welcoming a new member to the family. Two of the friends, especially, understood and verbalized, better than I could, the bittersweet feelings that can come in waves as a new baby's due date approaches. How conflicting to feel so excited to become a mama to four, but also so sad to no longer be a mama to three.
Don't get me wrong- I am completely excited and so ready to meet this sweet little life. I couldn't be happier to become a mama one more time. I can't wait for Gracie to have the sister she has been praying for. I think it will be amazing to be a family of six. I know Drew will be a wonderful big brother. My heart is so full of happiness when I think of her arrival, now just ten days away.
But...... I can't help feeling a little sad as this chapter closes, especially where Drew is concerned. Gracie and Luke are excited enough and grown up enough that I honestly have no concerns whatsoever about a new sibling having any negative consequences on their lives and routines. Drew is another story.
Drew is my constant sidekick and faithful companion. He is 100% Mama's Boy right now and loves me in that way that only little boys can love their mamas. He is my baby and has been for the past two and a half years and I love it. Ben says all of the time as he watches us interact, "You can't ever doubt if that boy loves his mama, can you?"
Things are getting ready to change in a major way. We'll be fine in a few months once all of the adjustments and transitions have been made, and it will be a good thing for Drew to gain a bit more independence. But it still makes me sad and a little apprehensive.
On a less hormonal note, I am super-charged with energy over the past couple of days. Nesting, cleaning, organizing, folding piles of baby clothes that were already folded. Sewing bibs, making baby headbands, cleaning out kitchen cupboards. Scrubbing windows, painting bathrooms (yes, really), sweeping patios, cleaning out junk drawers that I just cleaned out last month. Yep, I think this baby is coming soon. :)
Happy Monday, everyone!
