the college visits begin

Last week Gracie and I took a two day trip to Lawrence, Kansas to visit KU. One of the counselors at the high school has repeatedly told us parents to enjoy the college visits and to celebrate the one on one time together. Having a visit under my belt, I can now see exactly what she means.

As we explored the town of Lawrence and the KU campus (and Kansas City a bit as well), we had hours of time to talk. We shopped, got coffee, worked out together at the hotel gym, tried new restaurants, and really just enjoyed our time together. There was unstructured time to wander on our own and there were scheduled chunks of time for tours and presentations. Gracie even got to meet up with one of her friends on Sunday night for a bit to see her dorm room and pick her brain about campus life.

It was a very successful first college visit and we both walked away being able to picture Gracie becoming a Jayhawk.

(now to get time to slow down a bit......)

We stayed at a great hotel on campus. We enjoyed the view from the rooftop deck.

Gracie's friend suggested we have coffee at a local favorite and we could immediately see why. The place was so inviting that Gracie could immediately picture herself studying there. There were all kinds of nooks and crannies throughout the large building set up for students.
