our world, October 2018
Because blogging and a glass of cabernet is a much needed packing break at this moment in time. We are headed out of town for a family wedding (yay! LOVE a family wedding!! ) this weekend and getting us all packed is just never fun. We have to leave town mid-day tomorrow and I have to teach tomorrow morning, so everything must be packed before bed tonight.
Thankfully, we've gotten to the point with the majority of our travel that I can just tell the kids how many days to pack for and, for the most part, the correct clothing gets put into suitcases. Wedding attire makes this packing a bit different. "Drew, did you pack your tie?" "Luke, dark socks?" "Kate, your tights and gold shoes?" "Gracie, do you have your bridesmaids dress and jewelry and the right shoes and underthings?" Also, I purchased the cute outfits for the kids weeks ago and I've packed all the kid suitcases tonight..... but have yet to decide what I myself am wearing to the wedding. Is this mom reality or what?

So-- a list of things happening in our world in October 2018, in no particular order:
- We were married nineteen years on Tuesday. The other day in the car while in conversation with Grace about this, she responded- in a tone as if she felt sorry for us- "Nineteen years. .... (long pause).... that's a long time." I had to laugh. We celebrated 19 by skipping regularly scheduled Tuesday night programming and heading out for dinner and drinks. It was a beautiful night and we got to sit outside to enjoy our meal. We ended the night with coffee and carrot cake, our anniversary tradition. Maybe all Tuesday nights should be spent this way?
- Luke recently auditioned for and landed a role in the school play. In his usual very humble way, he casually mentioned waaaay after the fact that he and another student are splitting the male lead role. Luke does not like to be the center of attention, so this was a bit surprising. I am looking so forward to seeing this play in December.
- We are having the floors on the main level of the house refinished. I am so glad we are able to have this done, but oh, the mess. sigh.
- We are in the thick of soccer season. Grace is cheering at all the football games. Drew has been playing fall baseball. So. much. sports.
- Preschool is going well. I switched age levels this year and am now upstairs working with the oldest kids in the school. It's a small class and I still haven't quite gotten used to having half the amount of students this year as last year. Of the eight students in my class, five were mine last year. They enjoy being read to- my favorite. They also enjoy any art project I can think of- my second favorite. My co-teacher is very friendly and easy to work with.
I must now jump back into getting ready for this weekend. So excited to spend time with family.
